Holidays in Bamburgh – Sightseeing holidays on the Northumbrian coast
Bamburgh is steeped in history, and is the ideal destination for those in search of a holiday in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. Stay in a self-catering coastal caravan and spend your days exploring the wonderful scenery.   Once the capital of Northumberland, Bamburgh is famous for Bamburgh Castle, which dates back to Norman times. Set high above the Northumbrian coastline on a rocky plateau, the land has been settled since prehistoric times and during the Roman conquest was an important part of the Roman beacon defence system. By the 6th century it was the site of an imposing castle. Badly damaged during the Wars of the Roses, it has since been rebuilt several times and nowadays is open to the public.  Bamburgh is also famous as the birthplace of Grace Darling, who was born at her grandfather’s cottage close by St Aidan’s church, where she is now buried. The Grace Darling Museum is based in Bamburgh and is part of the RNLI Heritage Trust.
