Going north, Hull is a vibrant city, originally settled in the 12^th century as a port and fishing and whaling centre. With diverse architecture, it has many museums and galleries to visit, including the Maritime and Hull and East Riding museums. Hull has three theatres and a strong cultural heritage, and has produced many notable actors, poets and musicians. With a number of retail centres within the city, it offers something for everyone.
