Hartland Holidays

Hartland Holidays – Cheap holidays on the north-west Devon coast
Hartland holidays offer the perfect introduction to the south-west of England. The Hartland Peninsula sits on the north-west edge of Devon, with Hartland Point at its edge and the village of Hartland just three miles inland. A natural, unspoilt area of Devon and yet just 15 miles from Bideford and Bude, Hartland is the perfect location for UK countryside holidays in Devon. With plenty of self-catering holiday cottages in the area, you’re well placed to explore the dramatic Devon coast. The Hartland Peninsula is part of a stretch of Devon’s Heritage Coast and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with 12 miles of stunning cliff-top and coastal walks around the coastline. There’s plenty of sea fishing and anglers can catch sea bass from the beach and carp, rudd and bream from Hartland Quay.

Holidays in Hartland – Sunshine, scenery and seclusion in Devon
Holiday attractions in the Hartland area include Hartland Point; rising 350 feet above sea level, it’s the western point of the Bristol Channel, and on the tip of the peninsula is the Hartland Point lighthouse, built in 1874 and 18 metres high. A few miles along the coast is Hartland Quay, built in the 16th century and once a thriving harbour. The treacherous seas caused many shipwrecks and constantly battered the quay and with the coming of the railway to the area, the harbour fell into decline. Nowadays attractions include a shipwreck museum and the stunning rock formations of the rugged coastline. Inland, the breath-taking Devon countryside is punctuated by tiny hamlets such as Stoke, the later site of the church of St Nectans, and its earlier location, Cheristow. Hartland Abbey, a monastery built in 1157 for the monks of the order of St Augustine of Hippo, was lovingly restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. The estate was used for the filming of Sense and Sensibility and has beautiful woodland gardens. Other attractions include the private village of Clovelly, with its cobbled streets and whitewashed cottages.
