The Abbey stands at the west end of the town’s market place which is home to the famous Shambles covered market where visitors can sample some of the area’s finest local produce. Other significant historical buildings in Hexham include the Moot Hall and the Old Gaol, home to the informative Border History Museum.

 

Probably the most famous local attraction near to Hexham is Hadrian’s Wall. Visitors on holiday in Hexham can take advantage of the Hadrian’s Wall bus to reach some of the most interesting points along the wall or else enjoy gentle walking along the nearby section of the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail. Other places of interest within easy access of Hexham include the tranquil Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the magnificent Bamburgh Castle and the fascinating Beamish Open Air Museum. With superb access to the walking and cycling trails of the Northumberland National Park as well, it’s easy to see why Hexham is a great choice for a cheap UK holiday with plenty of variety.
