Horning Holidays
Horning Holidays – Family holidays in the heart of Norfolk
Horning is a picturesque village with many thatched flint-walled cottages, dating back to the Roman period, and set on the River Bure in the heart of the Norfolk Broads. It’s the perfect base for your relaxing UK holiday, with a great choice of Norfolk Broads apartments and holiday cottages from which to explore. Just outside the village are the ruins of St Benets Abbey, a medieval priory, which was founded around the 10th century, probably on the site of an earlier monastery, and is unique in being the county’s only Anglo-Saxon monastery to escape dissolution, possibly due to its remoteness. Close-by Coltishall is mentioned in the Domesday Book, and at Caister-on-Sea there is a partially excavated Roman fort dating from the first century AD. There are many medieval churches to explore in the area, making Horning a great base for sightseeing holidays.
