Renting country lodges in Llandinam is a charming and care-free way to book a holiday in mid-Wales. Llandinam is an ancient village in Powys, between Newtown and Llanidloes, resting on the River Severn. It’s full of half-timber buildings in traditional black and white, has a pretty hilltop church and notable country homes including Broneirion and Gregynog, and has been crowned Best Kept Village on a number of occasions. Self-catering accommodation here comes in the form of holiday lodges and country cottages or nearby caravan parks. There are also a few hotels and bed and breakfasts in the neighbouring towns and villages.

 

Llandinam’s riverside location makes the village a popular location for fishing holidays, with keen anglers booking country lodges locally for the weekend or for longer holiday periods. Trout, grayling and salmon are common catches in this section of the Severn, and the surrounding scenery makes a beautiful backdrop for a holiday spent fishing. Idling by the river isn’t the only way to spend a holiday in Llandinam though; there’s an awful lot to see and do in the Powys region. Llanidloes and the nearby countryside make for excellent walking holidays, and Hafren Forest is a great place for mountain biking, horse-riding, walking and bird-watching. Ten miles from Llandinam is Gilfach Nature Reserve, set at the entrance of the Marteg Valley in the Cambrian Mountains; and Glansevern Hall, Powis Castle and Gardens, which date back 800 years, the Tudor-built Walcot Hall and Stokesay Castle are all worth a visit. The kids will be enchanted by Borth Animalarium with its array of unusual animals.

 

Even with so many tourist attractions near Llandinam, you may fancy a trip further afield. You can get a taste of a seaside holiday with a daytrip to Aberystwyth or Aberdovey, each within 35 miles. Telford, Shrewsbury, Leominster and Hereford are all within 60 miles for a city break from your holiday or weekend in the country.
