Market Weighton Holidays – Idyllic countryside holidays in East Riding
Ideally situated for a holiday in the East Yorkshire Riding, Market Weighton is a small picturesque medieval market town where there has been a market since 1251. Close by is Arras Hill, an ancient burial ground dating from 400BC, with many artefacts and corpses, including those of chieftains. Market Weighton’s grade I listed Gothic church has remains dating back to the Norman period, and the former Methodist Church is the oldest surviving Wesleyan chapel, dating from the 13th century. Market Weighton is the perfected location from which to explore Yorkshire’s East Riding and the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds, and there’s a good selection of holiday lodges to rent in the area.

Holidays in Market Weighton – Activity holidays in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds
Market Weighton is a popular destination for UK walking holidays and the perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds; the first accredited ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town in East Yorkshire, both the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail and the National Cycle Network pass through the town. In the late 1700s a canal was built; it closed in 1900 and with a 6-mile stretch now open, it’s very popular with walkers and anglers. The canal head at nearby Pocklington is one of the British Waterways’ top ten water wildlife sites, boasting voles, otters, and bitterns. Market Weighton has some eccentric history; the tallest Briton ever recorded lived in the town, and is celebrated yearly with ‘Giant Bradley Day’. Kiplingcote Derby, Britain’s oldest flat race, is held every March over a 4 mile rural course. Horseracing enthusiasts can also visit York and Beverley racecourses.
