If you want to spend some time outside of your holiday cottage and explore the surrounding wilderness, then you can put your boots to good use and hike up the Old Man of Coniston, one of the fells on the western side of the Lake District. There a number of routes to take to the top, and beginners can even cheat by using the car park located part of the way up the tourist route.
