St Ouen’s Bay is the largest bay in Jersey, stretching almost the entire west coast for a distance of five miles. Coastal villas and cottages are probably the best way to holiday in Jersey, and in the St Ouen area you’ll find cottages and villas to rent of all sizes. Self-catering accommodation is in good supply, but for those who prefer the simplicity of booking a hotel for their Jersey holiday there are a number to choose from. Coastal cottages are especially suitable for the watersports enthusiast: it’s far easier to store a surfboard and park the hire car just outside! And St Ouen’s Bay is a magnet for surfers: the Atlantic Ocean rolls in steadily, and with five miles of bay there’re plenty of waves to catch. Holidaymakers booking coastal villas and cottages may not want to spend their entire time on the fine golden sands of St Ouen’s Bay beach, but it’s possible to. If you don’t bring your own surfboard there are several places to hire a surfboard and wetsuit, as well as receive tuition. Swimming isn’t recommended because of the strong currents and rip tides, except in flagged areas, but there are a host of other watersports to partake of: wind surfing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing. For more family-friendly water sports, head round the coast to St Brelade’s Bay and St Aubin’s Bay, where swimming is better and there are banana boats, water skiing and jet skiing activities.

 

Finding coastal villas and cottages to rent in Jersey should be pretty straightforward, and once you’re there, there’s plenty more to see apart from the sea. Jersey is steeped in history, and being so close to the northern France coastline has a definite French influence. There are plenty of things to do for all the family, ranging from a children’s activity centre and adventure park to Samares Manor and gardens. Elsewhere you’ll find Elizabeth Castle and Mont Orgueil Castle, the Jersey War Tunnels, the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and several museums to choose from.
