Walking and cycling are great ways to get out and about in Whicham with several well-marked trails weaving their way through the area often leading to scenic spots perfect for picnics. The Black Combe mountain is a popular walk with the main trail starting just outside Whicham church. Taking two hours to reach the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts with superb views. Other outdoor pursuits in the area include a golf course and the horse trekking centre in Whicham’s neighbouring village, Silecroft.
Whicham Holidays – Lake District villages and towns
The town of Millom is situated just a few miles south of Whicham and offers an assortment of restaurants and cafes as well as shops and a number of local attractions. The Millom Heritage Museum and Visitor Centre provides an insight into the area’s local history, while the two nature reserves either side of the town are ideal for wildlife spotting. The small fishing village of Haverigg, just along the coast from Millom, has a long sandy beach and offers an idyllic setting to enjoy a stretch of quiet coastline. Heading in the opposite direction, the town of Bootle or the Duddon Valley are good places to explore more of the Lake District while on a cheap UK holiday in Whicham.
