The town of Windermere is just 1km from the shore of the beautiful Lake Windermere and is still the most popular destination for visitors planning a UK Holiday to the Lake District. It's often confused with the lakeside town of Bowness, but the two are in such close proximity, most visitors assume they are both part of the same town. There are a number of self catering holiday cottages available, but visitors seeking a budget UK holiday can book a plot on one of Windermere's camping sites to enjoy the Lake District the old fashioned way.

The nearby town of Bowness is situated on the shores of Lake Windermere and offers tourists a variety of restaurants, bars and lakeside hotels. It's also an incredibly popular destination for those seeking a water sports holiday, with boat hire available for sailing and a number of places offering water skiing. If visitors don't fancy getting their feet wet, then they can always take the family to the ever popular, "World of Beatrix Potter", where you can wander through recreations of some of Potter's most popular children's books and meet the characters. There are also a variety of tours around the surrounding area available on open top bus and old-fashioned steam locomotive, plus the surrounding heritage sites are easily accessible by any number of walking tracks around the towns of Windermere and Bowness.
